Brewing

Great coffee beans deserve a great brew.

There is no single “right” way to make coffee. The best method is the one that gives you the flavor you enjoy most. A few simple adjustments to grind size, water temperature, and coffee-to-water ratio can make a big difference in the final cup.

Start With Fresh STICKBOY COFFEE

Grind your beans.

Use the Right Grind

Different brewing methods work best with different grind sizes.

Coarse Grind
Best for French press and many cold brew methods.

Medium Grind
A good starting point for most automatic drip coffee makers.

Medium-Fine Grind
Often used for pour-over brewing.

Fine Grind
Typically used for espresso.

If your coffee tastes weak or watery, try a slightly finer grind. If it tastes overly bitter or harsh, try a slightly coarser grind.

Coffee-to-Water Ratio

A good starting point is approximately:

1 to 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for every 6 ounces of water.

From there, adjust the amount of coffee to match your preference.

Like it stronger? Add a little more coffee.

Prefer a lighter cup? Use a little less.

Coffee should taste the way you want it to taste.

Water Matters

Coffee is mostly water, so the water you use can have a major effect on flavor.

Fresh, clean water generally produces the best results. Water that has a strong taste or odor can change the flavor of your coffee before the beans ever get a chance to shine.

For most brewing methods, water should be hot but not aggressively boiling when it comes into contact with the grounds.

Automatic Drip

Automatic drip remains one of the easiest ways to make a consistently good cup of coffee.

Use a medium grind, fresh water, and start with your preferred coffee-to-water ratio. Keep the coffee maker clean, especially the basket, carafe, and areas where coffee oils can build up.

Simple equipment can make excellent coffee when the basics are right.

French Press

French press brewing produces a rich, full-bodied cup.

Use a coarse grind, add hot water, and allow the coffee too steep for approximately four minutes before slowly pressing the plunger.

Because the coffee remains in direct contact with the water during brewing, French press can bring out a bold and satisfying flavor.

Pour-Over

Pour-over brewing gives you greater control over how the water interacts with the coffee.

Use a medium-fine grind and slowly pour hot water evenly over the grounds.

It may take a little more effort than pushing a button, but many coffee drinkers enjoy the control and clean flavor a pour-over can provide.

Cold Brew

Cold brew is made by steeping coarse-ground coffee in cold or room-temperature water for an extended period of time.

The result is typically smooth, rich, and easy to enjoy over ice.

Cold brew can be prepared stronger and diluted with water or milk depending on your preference.

Make It Your Own

Cream. Sugar. Black. Iced. Hot. Strong. Mild.

We are not here to tell you how you are supposed to drink your coffee.

Experiment with different beans, roasts, grind sizes, and brewing methods until you find the cup that works for you.

Because at STICKBOY COFFEE, the best cup of coffee is the one you enjoy drinking.
