With the great success of the annual Stone Wall 5K Snowshoe Race, and the IditaFAT winter fat bike race, we thought it only made sense to offer a greater challenge for those looking for one, and combine the two into 1 single event.
Winona Adventure Racing and Stickboy Coffee presents the only winter duathlon of its kind, the “Snofatshu”. Named after the mythical Icelandic Monster, the Snofatshu consists of a snowshoe leg of approximately 5km, arriving back to the transition area to send the partner racer out with the fatty for 10-20 KM of fat trail heaven. Distance will depend on snow conditions. Once back, the snowshoe runner will head out for the final 5K lap. Team or solo, it is your choice. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Winona Forest Recreation Association. We all can change the world!!
If a duathlon is not your thing, but you want to be part of this great event, just do the snowshoe race. The snowshoe race is a milder version of the Stone Wall 5K, relatively flat and fast, depending on conditions of course.
DATE / TIME: Saturday, February 18. 10:00 A.M. mass start for the duathlon and 5K snowshoe race.
START/FINISH: CCC Camp, County Route 90, Mannsville, NY
REGISTRATION: 8:30 A.M. -9:45 A.M.
COURSE: Groomed trail 10-20K long for fat bike portion, 5K trail for snowshoe portion.
REQUIREMENTS: Fat Bike: 3.5 inch wheels or greater. Snowshoes: 120 square inch surface
AID STATIONS: NONE. Come prepared; bring a water bottle if you need one.
ENTRY: $30 Solo duathlon $50 2 Person Team duathlon $20 Snowshoe Race
DIRECTIONS: Please follow these directions as there are many seasonal roads. Take Rt. I-81 to exit 39, which is the Mannsville Exit. Head East on County Route 90 to stop sign in Mannsville. Go through stop, and continue on East 90 for total of 6 miles.
LOANER SNOWSHOES: E-mail me to reserve snowshoes ASAP. DION racing snowshoes available for $5.
Fat Bike Rentals: TBA
REFRESHMENTS: Like all Winona races, there will be great Post-Race food available to all participants. BYO adult beverage of choice – if desired
