Stickboy Coffee Team Conquers the Black Fly Challenge in the Adirondacks
Indian Lake and Inlet, New York – Saturday, June 8, 2024 – The Black Fly Challenge (BFC) is a classic Adirondack Mountain gravel grinder that takes place every year on the second Saturday in June. The race changes direction every year with the start and finish alternating between Indian Lake and Inlet, New York. Over half the 40-mile course traverses the rugged Moose River Recreation Area on mountain roads composed of dirt, gravel, sand, and exposed boulders with several steep elevation changes.
Despite heavy rains and a wet start, the conditions on the course were surprisingly manageable for the team. Nate competed fiercely in the Category 1 mountain bike race, pushing himself to a strong finish. Crossing the line in 2 hours and 22 minutes, he secured 34th position overall. Impressively, he also clinched 7th place in his age group. Congratulations, Nate, on your outstanding achievement!
For Rich, the BFC marked his maiden voyage on his new bike, and he savored every second of the ride. Despite the daunting task of debuting a new bike in a race, he fearlessly tackled the cyclocross Category 2 event. Completing the race in 4 hours and 22 minutes, he clinched the 45th spot in his age group. Bravo, Rich, on triumphing over the challenge and crossing the finish line!
The BFC started as a mountain bike race but is now a top choice for cyclocross racers as well as tandems and even unicycles! BFC’s mission is to give back to the community. In 2019, BFC donated more than $65,000 bringing the two-year commitment to more than $114,000 reinvested into Indian Lake, Inlet, and neighboring communities.
